Steven G. Watkins is running for judge in the 2nd sub circuit of Cook County. I want to talk/write about why you should vote for him.
Just the facts, mam. (Joe Friday’s line in the Dragnet TV show.)
Steven has been practicing law in Chicago since 1990. He is the District Representative for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., general counsel for 100 Black Men, certified arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Cook County, a member of the Illinois State and the Cook County Bar Associations, current sponsor and former coach of Jackie Robinson Little League, former chairman or the Keller School Council, and has been evaluated qualified and/or recommended for the Circuit Court by the Chicago Bar Association, Chicago Council of Lawyers, Black Women Lawyers’ Association, the Puerto Rican Bar Association of Illinois and the Cook County Bar Association. He has been endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police. He has also been instrumental in setting up a free legal clinic and a food give away in the community.
Let’s get personal.
Steven received his undergraduate degree from Howard University and his JD from DePaul University.
He has been married to Jocelyn Watkins (a Chicago Police Detective) since 1990 and they have three amazing children. Zachary is a graduate from Butler University. While he was pursuing his finance degree he was also breaking records as a wide receiver on the Butler Bulldog’s football team. Jessica is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She was on the dean’s list all four years and is now a first year law student at De Paul University. Simone graduated from St Ignatious College Prep where she was an athlete as well as a scholar and is a freshman at the University of Missouri.
Steven is a member of St. Ailbe Church where he is an usher as well as a Men’s Club member.
The bottom line.
Steven’s resume alone should make you want to vote for him but his character is his main selling point. He is honorable, ethical, fair minded, and compassionate and he has a finely tuned moral compass. He is exactly what we need on the bench. So I’m asking you, for Steven, for me and for our community in general, to go to the polls on March 18th and punch 172 and elect Steven G. Watkins the next circuit judge from the 2nd sub circuit.
